Three of the main men responsible for the success of the TimberStruc company are brothers Simon and Tim Capewell, and Jon Lee. They set up the business together only a few years back with determined mindsets and keen ambition, but that’s not the only thing they have in common.
They were all born and raised on the same street in West Yorkshire village Emley, with their fathers working together at Emley Moor Colliery and playing cricket together for Emley Clarence Cricket Club throughout different times in their lives.
Simon, Tim and Jon went on to follow in their fathers footsteps and played junior cricket for the club, which has been on the go for over 125 years, before growing up to become part of a successful adult team that won a league and cup double together. Tim and Jon have also previously contributed as captains, whilst Jon is current chairman of the club- leadership seemingly coming naturally to them.
The talent obviously runs in the family, because Tim’s son James also played junior cricket for the club, before starting his senior cricket there as well. Jon’s two girls Jeanie and Betsy are currently there now, with Jeanie having her dad as her very own coach (he now teaches the under 13’s). It doesn’t stop there either, because Simon’s son Tommy has just started playing with the under 9’s this year, having no shortage of inspiration to turn to.
With this in mind, it’s no surprise that the bond between TimberStruc and Emley Clarence Cricket Club is incredibly strong. There’s family history that goes back decades, and the sport gives the three a place to channel their passion. After considering a way to honour this important place, which has so much sentimental and personal value to the team, it was decided that eight benches would be created and donated by the TimberStruc company.
The benches are now a huge benefit to the many club members that come and go through the club, they’ve become part of the Emley CCC’s history and solidify the contributions given by both families over the years.
Now including seven teams, it’s easy to compare how times have changed within the club since the days that both fathers played. The benches will be a part of the grounds for generations to come.
